Brand Overview & History

The history of Honda began in 1946 when Soichiro Honda began producing motorized bicycles in post-war Japan. With Honda Motor Co., Ltd., founded in 1948, they sold their first legitimate product, the Honda A-Type, a bicycle with a small motor. In the 1950’s Honda hit it big with the introduction and phenomenal success of the Honda Cub that ultimately would become a legendary model of motorcycle with more production numbers than all other motorcycles in history total.

By the 1960s, Honda was quickly expanding, not just in motorcycles but also in the production of their first car, the tiny T360 pickup truck that hit the road in 1963. In subsequent decades they would continue on to innovate with the introduction of the iconic Civic and Accord in the 1970’s and also contributed to the technology of vehicles with the introduction of superbikes. The motorcycle Gold Wing set the standard for cross-country riding comfort, for example.

Today, Honda is worldwide, creating everything from fast little city cars to high-tech hybrids and electric cars, luxury vehicles, robots like ASIMO, and more. The newest chapter is the Honda 0 Series—sleek, futuristic electric vehicles built to advance mobility. Over 70 years on, Honda still holds to its foundational values of reliability and innovation, evidenced by the millions of loyal riders and drivers around the world.
