The Yamaha XSR155 has launched in India, delivering some serious retro vibes at a price of ₹1,49,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This is Yamaha’s lightest machine to undergo homologation in India, boasting a 155cc VVA engine (the same engine that will be found in the MT-15 and R15) on the road, and producing 18.1bhp and 14.2Nm, mated to six-speed gearbox with the assist-and-slipper clutch that can be shifted easily. That means easy for city traffic and more than enough performance for short highway sprinting, all with Yamaha’s pleasing refinement thrown in too.

Modern Hardware, Retro Soul
Beneath that retro-looking round LED headlamp and teardrop tank is Yamaha’s well-tested Deltabox frame in tandem with premium suspension comprising upside-down front forks, alloy swingarm with monoshock linkage. What you’re left with is a machine that is agile enough to flick through congestion, yet dynamic enough to ride spiritedly on back roads. The seventeen-inch alloy hoops and neutral riding position makes it a reassuring bike for newer riders, whilst maintaining a fun riding experience for experienced riders, that Yamaha feel.
Specs & Colors
Yamaha really ups the game on electronics here. Dual-channel ABS, traction control and a fully digital LCD console are all standard. There are four color options – Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Greyish Green Metallic, and Metallic Blue – which allows for personal style to be easy. Yamaha also offers two official accessory packs – Scrambler and Cafe Racer – that gives you the option to change up the look and ergonomics without the hassle of searching for aftermarket parts. The Scrambler kit offers a touch more ruggedness, while the Cafe Racer kit is for those who want to have a sportier profile.

Rival Check: Who’s It For?
The XSR155 has a place between the nostalgic feel of the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and the modern offerings of streetbikes such as the MT-15. If you are looking for a retro vibe without the bulk, high revving performance and better tech than the Yamaha is certainly an appealing option. The Hunter 350 is full of thumping torque and a classic feel, but the XSR is lighter, more feature-rich and sportier.
